Melissa Steagall-Jones, CPA, CICA

Trust Committee Member

Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Business administration degree from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in 1991.  She earned her Certified Public Accountant designation in 1993 and became a partner in the accounting firm of Blackburn, Childers & Steagall PLC in 2002.  She is also a Certified Internal Controls Auditor.

Melissa is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants. She concentrates her practice in audit, governmental, healthcare, employee benefits plans and taxation.

Melissa serves as a Trust Committee member for First Covenant Trust and Advisors.  Her duties primarily consist of accepting and closing accounts and approving distribution of funds.  Her desire is to match the desires of the person creating the trust with the needs of the beneficiaries. 

Melissa has served her community as a Board Member and past chair of the Johnson City/Washington County/Jonesborough Chamber of Commerce, Washington County United Way, and Mountain States Foundation.  She has also served on the board of the Dawn of Hope and the ETSU Foundation. 

She currently serves as the Steering Committee Chair for the ETSU Roan Scholars, a member of the ETSU Community and Government Relations Advisory Council, a board member for the Northeast State Technical Community College Foundation, Advisory Board member of SunTrust Bank and Ex-Officio member of the Johnson City/Washington County/Jonesborough Chamber of Commerce Foundation.  Melissa also serves in the children’s ministry in her church, Central Baptist.

Melissa was selected as a member of the 40 Under Forty Class of 2002 by the Business Journal of the Tri-Cities/Virginia.  In 2004, she received the Distinguished Leadership Award by the Community Leadership Association and the ETSU College of Business and Technology Horizon Award.  She also received the ETSU National Alumni Association Award of Honor in 2018.

Melissa and her husband, Jeff, have two children, Lydia and Evan.  Lydia recently received her degree in accounting from ETSU and is currently working in the accounting firm and enrolled in the Master of Business Administration program at ETSU. Evan is a student at Science Hill High School and is a member of the football and track teams.
