Candace N. Smith

Senior Development Associate

My Role at Covenant

My role at Covenant spans across several areas of the business. I serve as the first point of contact for new clients and coordinate efforts to build new relationships across our retail, professional and institutional audiences. I also cultivate relationships with clients who have named Covenant to serve in the future if or when a triggering event occurs, such as incapacitation or death. Aside from my role in development, I also support our marketing efforts.

Education and Experience

During my first few years at Covenant I was a Trust Administrator, assisting with day-to-day operations in administering trusts and estates. During this time, I gained the knowledge and skills I needed as I shifted to my current role as Development Associate.

I graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Technical Writing. I use skills attained from this degree for editing and proofreading newsletter and blog content, as well as other communications. During my collegiate career, I also started my own small business, a women’s boutique with three brick-and-mortar locations, and helped my husband start his wedding videography business. Through these businesses, I gained valuable marketing and development skills I am now able to implement at Covenant.

Community Involvement and Personal Notes

While at ETSU, I served as the Public Relations Officer for the Chronic Illness and Disease Awareness organization, which helps bring awareness to students and the public about chronic illnesses. I have loved watching the organization grow over the years and continue making a great impact on our region. I also have a heart for the homeless and have served at Good Samaritan Ministries and Loaves & Fishes for many years. Outside of work and volunteering, I enjoy English style horseback riding, road biking, golf, hiking, photography, piano, writing, and spending time with my husband and our eight pets.
